Brohm replaced the entire staff when he took over at Purdue.

Coach Funk has really moved around a lot. I don't know what the percentage is, but a lot of coaches moving from one school to another is due to either a change in the head coaches or a promotion. That being said, coach Funk really picked some funky jobs. Purdue lost their last 7 games in 2016 and Indiana State was winless in 2017. Indiana State's rounded off average score was 45 to 14. Purdue is Purdue. Once a formidable team, they do not currently belong in a P5 conference.

That he was at Michigan for 4 years, and I expect was released when Harbaugh took over as coach, says a lot more about him than the last 2 years. Note that his son, Tyler, has been an assistant coach at Indiana State for the past 3 years. I expect this had a lot to do with his coaching there after Purdue unloaded their coaches.

What makes a good o line coach? What would make someone markedly better than another? How do you know?

Applying this to the Roadrunners: our new OL coach will earn the 'good coach' label if the OL shows significant improvement under his leadership. Barring the rash of injuries we had last year, Coach Funk, with all his years of experience, shouldn't have any trouble earning the 'good coach' label this year.

The only problem I see him having is teaching new techniques, over a short period of time, to a mixed group of experienced players, JUCO transfers, and a few very talented but inexperienced high school players who will earn playing time this season.
