This is something I've always wondered. The three top schools in the city (O'Connor, Steele, Smithson Valley) have a ton of talent that won't be going to P5 schools and they don't end up on our roster? I don't get it. A few years ago I spoke with the receivers coach about a kid at Smithson Valley. We were already trying to recruit the SV quarterback who had over 3,000 yards passing on a team that made it to the State Quarterfinals. However, SV had a receiver who had hauled in 1,500 of those passing yards. This kid had separation speed and could easily outrun any defenders that Steele and Judson could throw at him. We never even extended a preferred walk-on offer. What a shame.

This would be a promising flip. And also answer the above questions on RB and Power House school recruits.
Brady is the lead RB from Steele, right? If so... Saw that kid play against Vandergrift and my God. He's a beast.

Listened to FW on Taylor this morning.. One interesting quote that came out of that interview (probably not verbatim so bear with me) was something to the effect of... We don't recruit "stars".... We trust our talent evaluation. He said either prior to or right after something to the effect of... "in our minds, all of these guys are 5 star players"

Hmm. Well, okay. I don’t know. I guess I’d like to see kids that recruiting services say are 5 Star too. I feel dirty for writing that. Ugh.

UTSA is still a great school in a growing city. It's also not such a bad thing that our team plays in a domed stadium with a Rowdy fanbase.

If there's one thing Coach Wilson knows how to do, it's find talent and recruit it. Most of the coaches he chose for his staff likewise have solid resumes as recruiters. So if he says, "We don't recruit 'stars'. We trust our talent evaluation", I believe him. I'm just not convinced yet whether they're able to get the most out of that talent, especially offensively in terms of finding the right positions for them on the team, developing them for their roles, and putting in the best system to then make use of what they can bring to the team. Our OC and DC hires will have a HUGE impact on how we do next year.
