Was hoping you'd be wrong, but you're correct...

"If you compete at a Division I school, you have five calendar years to play four seasons of competition. Your five-year clock starts when you enroll as a full-time student at any two-year or four-year school and does not stop until five years have passed. Your clock continues to tick down, even if you spend an academic year in residence as a result of transferring, if you red shirt, if you do not attend school, or even if you enroll part time during your college career."

Dante Buford had many, many D1 offers from a host of Power 5 schools, but just got lost in OU's depth, and struggled to get time. However, he's actually put on quite a bit of muscle weight in his three years as a Sooner, and now weighs about 220-225 lbs. By way, UTSA added another non-scholarship player, mid-season. Kendell Ramlal transferred from Texas St at the break. He played at Episcopal High in Houston, and originally had offers from Texas St, SFA, the Citadel & AMCC. He's another undersized power forward at 6'7", 220, but has the advantage of having practiced with the team last year. He'll only have one year of eligibility, but he should see some playing time off the bench.

If you're counting, UTSA will have two scholarships to offer for the 2018 class, provided that there are no unexpected defections. The staff already has a verbal commitment from PG, Tamir Bynum from Houston. The word is that the staff will pursue a post player with the remaining offer. They are very high on Tristan Green (6'8", 216) from Boerne. But Green has offers from many schools, including UH, A&M, & Tulane, but has also garnered attention from UT, OSU, Purdue and others. In addition to Green, there are a couple of others: Souleymane Doumbia (6'10") & Jahmar Young (6'8"), but both are very slender to be true, D1 post players at this stage, and neither has Green's skill. But we have almost a year to sign someone, and a lot can happen in that time.
