    Default 2017 basketball recruiting

During early summer, the staff extended offers to Fabian White & Jamari Wheeler. White is a 6'7" PF from Kingwood TX. He is a three-star Rivals player, and a four-star according to ESPN. Unfortunately, he has verbally committed to the University of Houston. He also had offers from UTA, TCU, Creighton, Boise St, and several other mid-majors.

Jamari Wheeler has also committed to another team, Duquesne. He is a 6'1" PG from Live Oak FL. Wheeler had offers from many mid-majors (UT-Chattanooga, BGSU, James Madison, Ga. Southern, etc.).

As most of you know, our main need for 2017 is at center. This is Lucas O'Brien's last year, and James Ringholt is no post player (despite being 6'10").

UH got a $20 million donation from billionaire businessman Tilman Fertitta to renovate Hofheinz Pavillion. It'll be renamed the Fertitta Center. Between the home of Phi Slamma Jamma getting renovated, their football team's success, and their likely invitation into a P5, it's no surprise White chose them.

We need to get a donation of about $100 million for a new convo. Wishful thinking?

I met Adrian Rodriguez tonight at halftime of the ASU game. He's a really nice young man from Tulsa. He's about 6'7" or 6'8", and pretty easy going. He said that he liked everything so far, and was enjoying the atmosphere of the football game. He has offers from Texas St, Missouri St, UMKC & a few other mid-majors. He wants to major in business, so I told him that our business school is better than the one in San Marcos. He'll meet with Lynn Hickey tomorrow. I hope that we can rope him in.

On Friday, the staff made an offer to 6'9" Grant Jones, of Fort Worth. I don't know much about this kid, but he's long & lean, and likes to play close to the rim. He will definitely need to add about 25 lbs to play at the college level, but he's only a sophomore (class of '19).

It's official: Adrian Rodriguez has verbally committed to UTSA. It came down to the Roadrunners and UMKC. After visiting UMKC in late September, he felt much more comfortable with the coaching staff at UTSA. At 6'8" & 245 lbs, this is a kid that could get some playing time at the post, next season. Great job, coaches!

Sorry that I'm late with this, but this past Monday, the 24th, we received a verbal commitment from Jhivvan Jackson, from Trinity (TX) High. He is a very speedy PG, with excellent ball handling skills, and a nice mid-range jumper. This kid garnered a ton of interest, from coast to coast.

Yesterday, the Roadrunners extended an offer to Stefon Fisher. Fisher is a 6'8", 230 lb forward from D.C., who is currently attending high school in FL. He has a bunch of offers, Kansas St, Illinois St, Southern Utah, Wofford, to name a few.

It does not appear that we will seriously pursue Stefon Fisher. Fisher has had trouble with the law, and is too much of a risk.
