Our ladies played 5 games in 3 days at the Titans Classic in Fullerton, California this weekend, winning two of the five.

    Game 1: Weber State - 2, UTSA - 1
    Game 2: Cal State Fullerton - 13, UTSA - 1
    Game 3: UTSA - 3, San Diego State - 2
    Game 4: UTSA - 3, Canisius - 2
    Game 5: San Diego State - 2, UTSA - 0

San Diego State (38-20) finished last year with a #38 RPI, Cal State (34-22) with a #52 RPI, Weber State (38-19) a #85 RPI, and Canisius a #223 RPI.

UTSA (36-18) finished last year with a #68 RPI btw. Our 36 wins was our program's highest number since 2005. Btw, the 2005 team went 42-18 in the Southland and captured the NCAA softball home run title for the third consecutive year that season, hitting 103 in 60 games. Thirteen of last year's 19 players return, including 6 regular starters and 3 pitchers. We have 3 seniors on the team this season.

Our ladies host the UTSA Classic this weekend. The visiting schools will be Virginia, Tulsa, North Dakota, and Texas A&M-CC. Our first game is on Friday at 5:30 against North Dakota.

Watched about 8-10 games last year. Good season. Ready for more.

I've always wondered why softball is played on a Little League size field with similar rules.

The exit speed of a softball isn't nearly as fast as a baseball but it's still pretty damn fast for the field size the girls play on. Especially fast, considering the corners are sometimes cutting the field. I can see why they wear face masks. It seems like the diamond could be expanded to 50/70 with a 250 fence. Although that would require a massive overhaul of fields everywhere and change established strategies of the game.

You make a good point. Looking at last year's baseball and softball home run stats for example, there were 17 D1 baseball teams that averaged at least 1 home run per game, but there were 51 D1 softball teams that did the same, exactly 3 times the amount of baseball.

That's a lot of home runs, when you consider their ability to hit for distance is limited by a .47 COR measurement for NCAA approved softballs and maximum of a 98 MPH BBS for approved bats.

What I do find interesting is that with the above restrictions on the bat and softball, the girls are averaging a similar exit velocity of a 12 year old boy hitting with a 1.15 BPF bat and a .55 COR baseball on the same size field. The biggest difference maker seems to be the strength of a 20 year old female vs. A 12 year old boy and the vastly superior skill set that a collegiate athlete brings to the batters box.

Are the crowds good for home softball games at UTSA it's been a very long time sense I have seen a game. Looking to attend the UNT game in March.
